BREAKING NEWS: URGENT -- French hostage released 3 years after abduction in Mali
USPA News -
Frenchman Serge Lazarevic, who was kidnapped by al-Qaeda militants in Mali more than three years ago and was the last French hostage to be held in Africa, has been released in the Sahel, French President François Hollande announced on Tuesday. Hollande`s office said Lazarevic had been released and would soon return home to France after arriving in Niger.
"He is relatively healthy, despite the very harsh conditions of his long captivity. He will be repatriated to France quickly," Élysée Palace said in a statement, thanking the authorities in Niger and Mali. Lazarevic was kidnapped by al-Qaeda`s North African branch AQIM in November 2011.
