Italian drivers rate themselves highly but are considered the worst in Europe among respondents to a survey issued Wednesday.
Italian drivers received a confidence vote of 31% compared to 37% for the Swedes, who ranked highest on the "barometer of responsible driving" carried out by the French foundation VINCI Autoroutes, which conducted its survey across 10 countries in the European Union.
Meanwhile Italian drivers scored themselves a healthy eight out of 10 points on the responsibility ranking versus seven points in the judgement of their European peers.
Even Italian drivers are harsh toward each other, however, judging their compatriots irresponsible (45%), stressed (37%), aggressive (26%), and even dangerous (34% compared to a European average of 26%).
