The President of the French Republic received on august 24, the Secretary General of United Nations Ban Ki-Moon. They discussed the next steps in the preparation of COP 21, which enters its final stretch. They welcomed the progress already achieved but much remains to be done.
BAN KI MOON MEETS FRENCH PRESIDENT HOLLANDE BEFORE THE UN GENERAL ASSEMBLY
The Head of State welcomed the initiative of Mr. Ban Ki-moon to organise a meeting of heads of state and government on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly on September 27. It will be co-chaired with France and Peru. The aim is to give the necessary political impetus for negotiations to succeed. Every opportunity must be seized to advance by December, particularly on funding the meeting in Lima in October and the G20 summit in Antalya in November. France will gather the heads of state and government at the opening of the COP 21 to give a clear and ambitious framework for negotiations.
The President of the Republic and Secretary General of the United Nations also discussed international crises. The Head of State reiterated its full support to the political process conducted under the auspices of the United Nations in Libya. It must end as soon as possible. In Syria, the political transition should now be initiated on the basis of the declaration adopted by the Security Council on August 17. The French President Hollande also thanked the Secretary General for UN action in favour of stabilising the RCA. LAURENT FABIUS INVITED BAN KI MOON FOR THE WEEK OF AMBASSADORS IN PARIS----------------------------
Laurent Fabius French Minister of Foreign Affairs had invited Ban Ki Moon so that he could speak before the French diplomats at the current "week of ambassadors" in France. Laurent Fabius has expressed his joy to receive Ban Ki Moon in preamble to the preparation of the COP21, that comes up in the next 100 days for the great Climate Conference. Fabius The French Foreign Affairs Minister will be officially elected "president of COP21", after months of preparation for this major event of negotiations on climate change and tackling sustainable development issues to scale the entire planet.
