Maoist landmine targets police, at least 8 killed

A landmine explosion killed eight people, including six police officers in eastern India, local authorities said. The attack occurred at around 12:30 p.m. local time, when six police officers and two villagers riding inside a vehicle struck a landmine in the Gaya District of south-central Bihar in eastern India.
The explosion took place between the villages of Uchla and Dhamania in the Shergahati subdivision of Gaya, according to Gaya Police Superintendent Akhtar Hussain, who spoke with NDTV. The blast was believed to be triggered by Maoists using an improvised explosive device (IED), which completely destroyed the jeep. The powerful explosion left a six-foot crater on the road.
